Something to Sing About …

My husband, Thomas Fisher, and I were dating when we wrote "Where We Begin" for our newlywed friends.

ONE FOR ALL YOU VALENTINES: WHERE WE BEGIN

There are five words in a standard marriage proposal (the question + the answer), and what better way to mark this season of love than with a tune that describes that moment and the subsequent wedding? Thomas and I wrote “Where We Begin“ for our friends’ wedding; it’s a lilting mid-tempo featuring the brilliant guitar picking of Justin Gild. (Can you picture it in a film or on a TV show? Then we must talk!) Enjoy this mp3, with Thomas singing, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Amy Sky, a superstar singer-songwriter from Canada, will be releasing a new album, Alive and Awake, in the coming months, along with a companion book by the same name. A mental health advocate, Amy selected my song “Go On” as part of the release, for its healing message, and I’m thrilled because her powerhouse voice and heartfelt interpretation are stunning! She took the song to a new place in so many ways, and I’m grateful for our collaboration!

Upon hearing the demo of the song, Amy immediately connected with the lyrics, which deal with the theme of loss, granting the listener permission to grieve. Take a listen to the demo version, sung beautifully by Brooke Campbell, below.

My RocketHub fundraiser was a success, so now I've got these beautifully designed demo CDs (artwork by Lauren R. Popek for identifiDesign) in my clutches!

NEW MUSIC, THANKS TO A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER
Fresh off the presses at Disc Makers, my demo of film & TV songs has arrived! My successful crowdfunding campaign on RocketHub enabled me to get the CDs printed, and I also had business cards printed with my new logo (below), designed by Lauren R. Popek of identifiDesign.

I raised $2,540, and am so grateful to everyone who donated, spread the word and helped me along the way!

The musical's world premiere production was a sold-out success at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick.

ISBY IS BOUND FOR BROADWAY …
The new musical IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU, which had its world premiere this fall at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, is heading to Broadway in fall 2012 under the direction of David Hyde Pierce. The show is written by composer/creator Barbara Anselmi and lyricist/librettist Brian Hargrove, with a handful of additional lyricists on the show. Barbara and I wrote a song called “Perfect” for the show.

The sold-out production at George Street was also under Pierce’s direction, and the stellar cast starred Tyne Daly and Richard Kline as the parents of the bride, and Harriet Harris and Howard McGillin as the groom’s parents.

Powerhouse singer-actor Lisa Howard also starred and sang our tune so wonderfully with Jessica Hershberg. The show was produced in association with Scott Landis, Michael Hanel and Daryl Roth.

The show's next production will take place at the Village Theatre in Issaquah, Washington, from March 14 to May 20, 2012.

The next production will be in March 2012 at the Village Theatre in Issaquah, just 17 miles from downtown Seattle. Nav over to the image at left for more info and tickets.

VIDEO: ORIGINAL VERSION OF “PERFECT”
Barbara and I came up through the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop together, and “Perfect” was originally written during our second year. Though the show has gone through many iterations — and consequently, so has the song — I’m thrilled that it’s remained!

The original version of the song has been done in concerts and cabarets in NYC and regionally. If you’re an actor who is interested in purchasing the sheet music, contact me.

To hear “Perfect” in its original form (as a solo sung by Mamie Parris), watch the video below:
